Beijing Family Box, Contemporary Chinese Architecture by Crossboundaries Architects

Beijing Family Box is a 2,300 square meter children center located at the outer corner of a park in Beijing, China. The box locations are meant to break the rigid layout of the concrete columns, which enhances the visibility of the building. Designed to accommodate children up to twelve years old and their parents’ needs, Beijing Family Box is ready to be a center of different kinds of children activities.

Swimming pool and games playground as well as reading area, café, and classes of music, dancing, crafting and cooking are all provided by the box. In order to enhance and balance the space and equipments for the children, the common areas of the box are treated with low contrast finishes. It is also intended to enable it to camouflage with a series of arches in the surrounding background.

Crossboundaries Architects, in collaboration with architects and engineers from BIAD International Studio & BIAD TSH International Studio, had completed this Family Box in December 2009 for their client Children Enterprise (UK) Limited.(Signage: didelidi.com – Photographer: Chaoying Yang)
